968 :: Saint Matilda


On (or about) this date in our family history . . . the 14th day of March . . . in the year 968 . . . Matilda of Ringelheim dies at the convents of Sts. Servatius and Dionysius at Quedlinburg, and is buried there by the side of her husband . . . St. Matilda is currently believed to be a 30th great-grandma of Josephine Wingfield Henry nee Davis (1842-1899) . . . who is a 2nd great-grandma of the Keeper of this family history blog . . . Matilda built many churches, and founded or supported numerous monasteries . . . her chief foundations were the monasteries at Quedlinburg, Nordhausen, Engern, and Poehlden . . . she spent many days at these monasteries and was especially fond of Nordhausen . . . she was venerated as a saint immediately after her death, and her feast is celebrated on March 14th . . . her findagrave memorial page
