1784 :: Birth of Jonathan Barker

On (or about) this date in our family history . . . the 8th (or 18th?) day of September . . . in the year 1784 . . . Jonathan Barker is born in Medford, Massachusetts . . . this Jonathan is a 4th great-grandpa to the Keeper of this family history blog . . . from Google Books comes this excerpt from Genealogical and family history of the state of Maine, Volume 4 by Henry Sweetser Burrage, Albert Roscoe Stubbs . . .

P.S. . . . the date of birth on his tombstone appears to be the 8th instead of the 18th . . .

Hmm. Vickie, is he descended from the Barkers of Methuen? If so, we may have a cousin connection.

Hi Bill . . . hope you are feeling better today . . . unfortunately, at this time, all I have on our Jonathan is that his father's name is Asa Barker . . . and is said to have been born in Medford, Massachusetts . . . definitely need to spend some time working on this line . . . please do give me a holler if you see a connection . . . V. . . .

I think there is a connection. We are both descended from Richard Barker and his wife Joanna (last name unknown) from Andover, Ma.

Your Jonathan is descended from their son William.I'm descended from
their youngest son, Benjamin.

So, howdy cousin!

Hi Vicki,
I just found this website this evening and was excited to discover information on Jonathan Barker (1785-1860)who was my three greats grandfather. One of his sons by his second wife was Charles Kimball Barker, my great, great grandfather. I have an old photograph album from the mid to late 1800's with many Barker Family pictures. Jonathan's parents were Asa (1749-1822)and Lucy and my records show Jonathan to be one of 14 children. I don't know if this is the same Asa who was a soldier in the American Revolution or not--do you know? So glad to have found you! Jane Barker
