1667 :: Marriage of Elizabeth Frost and William Gowen


On this date in our family history . . . the 14th day of May . . . in the year 1667 . . . Elizabeth Frost marries William Gowen in Kittery, York County, Maine . . . this William Gowen (sometimes called Smith) is one of the Scottish prisoners captured in the Battle of Dunbar and exiled to America . . . and this Elizabeth and Williams are 9th great-grandparents of the Keeper of this family history blog . . .

Good morning, cousin Heather . . . thanks for commenting on this . . . I have had this Grandpa Gowen in my tree for a while but had not thoroughly researched him . . . just found the connection to The Unity yesterday . . . and while "Googling" around I saw the post about the Scottish prisoners of war on your site . . . and found the facebook page . . . and joined the Yahoo group . . . definitely have a lot more reading to do on this newest "discovery!"

William Gowen alias Smith and Elizabeth Frost are also my ancestors as are their children Nicholas and Margaret. Nicholas m Abigail Hodsdon and their dau Margaret (1699-1775) m Abraham Lord, son of Nathan and Martha (Tozier), 10 Apr 1717 in Kittery. Their son Abraham, b abt 1722, m Phebe Heard. Their son Jacob Lord m Mary Huntress, dau of Darling Huntress and Love Hearl.Their dau Mary (Polly) Lord m Maturin Abbot. They are my 4th gr grandparents.

Margaret Gowen, dau of William and Elizabeth (Frost) Gowen, m Daniel Emery, son of James and Elizabeth, on 17 Mar 1695 in Kittery. They had 10 ch, inc Simon, b Berwick 1702, and Joshua, b Berwick 1715. Simon m Martha Lord, dau of Nathan and Margaret (Hearl) Lord, 21 Oct 1725 in Berwick, Joshua m Adah Tidy, dau of John and Hannah (Morrell) Tidy, about 1758. About 1758, Simon's son John, b Kittery 1734, married Adah, dau of Joshua. Their dau Mary (Polly) Emery m Elijah Blaisdell, son of Daniel Blaisdell and Mary Allen, 11 Dec 1788 in York. They are my 3rd great grandparents.
